A planning permission board that lasts the whole build

A planning consent board is only useful as long as it can be read from the public highway: fallen, warped or faded, it no longer does its job. The display requirements — wording, dimensions, duration — are given to you by your local council when consent is granted; our job is to supply a board that stays legible for as long as necessary. The material simply has to hold up outdoors without weakening: 3.5 mm Akilux® suits almost every display, and 3 or 5 mm Forex® is preferred when the board is screwed onto a solid backing and must stay perfectly flat.

The size and the wording to display

Seventy-six preset sizes are available, and the display comes down to a rectangle legible from a distance: better a slightly larger board than one that is too discreet. If no size fits, enter your exact height and width and the board is cut to order, portrait or landscape. The mandatory wording and minimum dimensions are given to you by your council along with the consent. Reproduce them word for word; we lay them out without altering them.

Where to put the board

Location is everything: the board must be visible from the public highway, without a passer-by having to step onto the site. Place it at eye level, on the property boundary, facing the busiest direction of traffic — and if the site fronts two roads, double-sided printing or a second board saves having to choose. Clear any vegetation in front, and remember that a hedge grows during the works: what is visible in January can disappear by June. An existing support, gate or fence, saves a post; otherwise, two uprights set outside the plant area stop a lorry from taking it out on its first pass.

Eyelets, lamination and wind resistance

Eyelets all around the edge, set at regular intervals, stop the board flapping in the wind. A Serflex cable tie or Ø 12 mm standoffs let you mount it on an existing fence or hold it off a wall. A gloss or matt lamination keeps the colours when the board sits in full sun from spring until the end of the works.

Using the council's template without distorting it

Take the template supplied by your council and export it in CMYK at 300 DPI, with 2 mm bleed and a 4 mm safety margin. The board is read from the street: a heading in large type, strong contrast and neatly aligned wording work better than cramped text. If you start from an official template, send it as is; we scale it to the chosen size without touching its content.

Your board is made in our workshop in the Gers, 100% Made In Occitanie. The display must be in place from the start of works: if the date is close, urgent and express turnaround are there for exactly that.
