Wine and spirits labels: the finishes that add value
- 29 May, 2026
In Armagnac and Côtes de Gascogne country, the label is no minor detail: it's the first thing a customer sees, and often what triggers the purchase. Here are the finishes that turn a label into a genuine selling point.
Paper: the foundation of the finish
Beyond classic coated stock, specialty papers (textured, laid, natural, special adhesives) immediately add a premium, artisanal dimension, in keeping with local craftsmanship.
Hot foil stamping
Gold, silver, copper: a gilded line or an estate name that catches the light draws the eye and signals quality. It's one of the most prestigious finishes for a fine wine or an Armagnac meant for ageing.
Embossing and debossing
Raised or recessed detail created in the paper (a logo, a crest, a pattern) adds a tactile, upmarket dimension, noticeable the moment the bottle is picked up.
Spot varnish
A glossy varnish applied selectively over a matte background creates a subtle, elegant contrast, ideal for making one element stand out without overloading the design.
