Custom Textiles: A Practical Guide, from Garment to Order
Customising t-shirts, polo shirts or caps for a team, a club or an event comes down to four steps: choosing the garment, choosing the technique, preparing the design, then ordering. Here is how to go about each step, and what we do at our workshop in Manciet (32): flocking and DTF, which you can order online; embroidery, done by a partner, on quote.
1. Choose the garment
Start from how it will be used: a single event, an outfit worn every day or a club jersey do not have the same requirements. The type of garment then shapes the rest of the project:
- T-shirts: the most common choice for teams and events.
- Polo shirts: a smarter look, often chosen for workwear.
- Sweatshirts: for the in-between seasons, clubs and associations.
- Caps: an accessory that suits a logo well.
Fabric, weight, cut: to make the right choice, read our guide to choosing the garment to customise.
2. Choose the marking technique
Three techniques, three approaches:
- Flocking (flex): a cut film heat-pressed onto the fabric, for numbers, names and simple logos with few colours. Produced in our workshop, available online.
- DTF: the design printed onto a film then heat-transferred, for photos, gradients and multicolour designs. Produced in our workshop, available online.
- Embroidery: the logo stitched with thread, for a raised finish on polo shirts, jackets and caps. Done by a partner, on quote.
To compare the techniques criterion by criterion (quantity, design, fabric, durability), read our comparison Flocking, DTF or Embroidery: Which Technique Should You Choose?
3. Prepare your design
A good print starts with a good file:
- The format. A vector logo (PDF, SVG, AI or EPS) keeps sharp edges at any size. Otherwise, provide a high-resolution image.
- The colours. Count them: a 1- or 2-colour logo suits flocking; a photo or a gradient calls for DTF.
- Position and size. Decide where the marking should appear (chest, back…) and at what size, depending on what the item offers.
- The text. If each piece carries a different name or number, prepare the list in advance.
No file ready? Our design studio creates or adapts your design.
4. Order: online or on quote
Online, for flocking and DTF. Choose your item in our custom textiles range: on each product page, the configurator offers the techniques available for the item and prices them, with the price and lead time. The minimum quantity depends on the technique.
On quote, for embroidery and specific projects. Embroidery, a large run, several different garments or a specific need: describe your project on our quote page and attach your design if you have it. The quote is free, within 72 hours, with no obligation.
In short
- The garment: by use, fabric and cut.
- The technique: flocking or DTF in our workshop, online; embroidery by a partner, on quote.
