Which board should you choose for your beer coasters?
Beer coasters are printed on 580 g mechanical pulp board. The high grammage gives real thickness, keeps the coaster flat and absorbs the condensation running down a cold glass. The surface stays matt and open, so solid colours look soft rather than glossy, while hairlines and very light typefaces lose definition. Design with contrast: a well-sized logo and a short message read far better than fine detail.
The shapes available
The 10 cm round is the bar standard. Neutral and familiar, it sits under any glass. The 9.3 x 9.3 cm square offers a similar working area with a more graphic outline.
The capsule 10 x 10 cm and modern 10 x 10 cm shapes rework that square through their corners, giving a recognisable silhouette for the same footprint. The 10 x 8.7 cm hexagon follows the same idea with sharper angles.
The 11.8 x 11.7 cm heart suits weddings and themed evenings. The 12.5 x 9.5 cm oval stretches the artwork and leaves room for a strapline. The 13.5 x 12 cm triangle is the most assertive of the eight, useful on a tasting table or an exhibition stand.
Finishing and double-sided printing
Printed on one side, the coaster carries your logo. Printed on both sides, the reverse can hold opening hours, social accounts or the next event. Standard finishing means printing alone. Letterpress debossing presses the design into the board, an imprint you can feel with a fingertip. Hot foil lays a metallic film over a logo or a monogram. Both work best with a simple, well-drawn motif.
Preparing your artwork
Supply files at 300 DPI in CMYK, with 2 mm of bleed on every edge and a 4 mm safety margin. Cutting follows the outline of the shape you choose, so anything sitting close to the edge risks being trimmed.
