Which paper for your birth announcement cards?
People feel the card before they read it. The 350 gsm silk coated stock holds photographs cleanly and stays rigid in the hand. The 300 gsm recycled stock is flatter and slightly warmer in tone, which suits a plain, quiet announcement. The creative papers change the feel entirely: 250 gsm Rives Tradition with its soft grain, the smoother 250 gsm Rives Design, 320 gsm Gmund Hemp and 300 gsm Gmund Wheat with visible fibres, and 350 gsm Crush Maize, whose pulp includes maize residue. All of them take foil and handwriting well.
Sizes available
A6, portrait or landscape, is the classic choice: it fits a standard envelope and sits happily on a fridge door. DL is long and narrow, ideal for a panoramic photo; the portrait version does the opposite and frames a single face. A5 gives you room for a longer text, several pictures or directions if a christening follows. The 148 x 148 mm square, also offered in an S version, suits centred, graphic layouts.
Finishes and double-sided printing
Printing both sides frees the back for your text, your thanks or a second photograph. A single fold turns the card into a small two-page booklet. Spot varnish, flat or 3D, lifts a name or a motif; gold or silver foil on the front gives a stronger shine. Gloss, matt or soft touch lamination protects the card and changes how it feels. White, blue or pink envelopes can be added, or left out.
Preparing your file
Supply artwork at 300 DPI in CMYK, with 2 mm bleed on every edge and a 4 mm safety margin around text. Outline your fonts or send them with the file. Send us your layout if you are unsure and we will check it before anything is printed.
