Which paper should you choose for your desk pads?
Desk pads are printed on 90 g offset paper. It is uncoated and matt, so ballpoint, rollerball and pencil all bite into the surface instead of sliding across it. At 90 g the sheet has more body than ordinary copier paper: it does not buckle under the hand and it tears away cleanly from the pad. Plan your artwork accordingly, keeping the centre light, because the surface is meant to be written on.
The sizes available
A2, 420 x 594 mm, covers the width of a working desk and protects the surface underneath. It is the size for reception desks, branch counters and any position that deals with visitors all day.
A3, 297 x 420 mm, fits more easily on a shared desk or in a coworking space, between screen and keyboard. It also suits planners that travel to meetings.
Pad assembly and sheet count
The pad is glued at the head or at the foot. Head gluing keeps your name at the top of the page, where the eye lands first. Foot gluing frees the whole upper area for writing and places your contact details along the edge of the desk. Either way, a rigid board back holds the pad flat and lets a sheet be torn off with one hand. Choose 25 sheets for a one-off campaign, 50 for a pad meant to last a season.
Preparing your artwork
Supply files at 300 DPI in CMYK, with 2 mm of bleed on each edge and a 4 mm safety margin for text and logo. The glued strip takes up a few millimetres at the top or the bottom depending on assembly, so keep essential information away from that edge.
